Due to snow accumulation, all Iron County School District schools will follow a two-hour delayed start on Thursday, Jan. 11.. School start times and transportation schedules will run two hours later than normal. Morning preschool is canceled. Please check secondary bell schedules for specific class period start times. The school day will end at the regular time. Early morning practices and other before school activities will not be held. Any field trips scheduled for departure at the beginning of the school day are also canceled. If the weather continues to create unsafe conditions, more information will be communicated by 8 a.m. As during all adverse conditions, we encourage parents to make attendance decisions for their children based on their specific ability to get to school safely. We trust parents to make the ultimate call when it comes to their child's safety. Teachers will work with students to make up any missed assignments.

There is a new community resource for parents struggling to manage their child's challenging behavior at home. It is an 8-week-long psychoeducation group using the Positive Solutions for Families Curriculum developed by the National Center for Pyramid Model Innovations (NCPMI). This group will be offered four times per year. The facilitator is a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern who specializes in working with children ages 0-13 and their families. She is a mother of three neurodiverse children. She has spent the last 20 years working with children, their families, and teachers as a special education behavior and functional skills specialist, an early intervention teacher, a Registered Behavior Technician, an education supervisor, and a classroom behavior management trainer in Southern Utah. She is passionate about infant and early childhood mental health and believes that healthy parent-child relationships are the key to ending the cycle of intergenerational adverse childhood experiences. She holds a BIS in Behavior Science and Business Management from Dixie State University and will graduate with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University in June 2024. She is in the process of training in or is certified in TF-CBT, Sand tray therapy, Play Therapy, Expressive arts, Internal Family Systems, Positive Behavior Support Systems, Applied Behavior Analysis, Parent Child Interactive Therapy, Child-Parent Psychotherapy, Child-Parent Relationship Therapy and the Pyramid Model Social-Emotional Positive Solutions for Teachers and Families.

A phone call from a child who is crying can stir up all kinds of emotions for a parent. Scammers are playing on that vulnerability and calls targeting parents are on the rise. Reports of parents receiving such calls have been reported at some of our elementary schools. If you receive a call like this during the school day, please do the following: * Call dispatch at 435-586-2955 and report the phone call. * Call your child’s school to reassure yourself that your child is OK. * Do not give the caller personal identifying information by speaking your child’s name. * Stay calm. * Keep your social media settings on private so scammers do not have access to information about your children.

Students in Third, Fourth and Fifth grade have the opportunity to participate in the Iron Springs Choir if they chose. This is something that if they choose to participate requires them to come to school early on Friday mornings for practice. Last week they held a concert for the school and parents. They performed four different numbers with several solos and duets. Thank you to Mrs. Mock and Mrs. Wells for sharing their love for music with our students
